Within the Musical Theatre Classes children are taught breathing techniques, clarity of speech, vocal training exercises and singing itself. Simple dance and acting go alongside this when working on pieces from Musicals. The classwork helps to improve speech, communication, pitch, tone and physical movement as well as being invaluable for self-esteem and confidence.
Children are prepared for IDTA exam in Musical Theatre. Group exams are entered as well as solo, duet and trio medal tests. For these exams, depending on the level, the children are required to introduce themselves, recite poetry and tongue twisters, perform breathing and vocal exercises, create their own scripts, discuss themes and musicals and contribute choreographic and creative ideas for performance.
All students have opportunities to perform on stage in our regular performances. Past performances have included pieces from the Wizard of Oz, Wicked, Chicago, the Sound of Music and Mary Poppins.
Please note: Separate dance classes (Ballet, Tap and Modern Jazz) are considered essential for those students considering serious full time training in the performing arts
